NEW Tourism Councillor in Nerja, Bernardo Pozuelo, insists that the local sector must invest in improving its hotels to better attract the international market.
There are 6,000 available places in Nerja, at hotels, hostels and aparthotels, but the councillor said that if the town aspired to “excellence” then the establishments will have to invest part of the takings expected this summer in undergoing refurbishment.
He referred to the local Parador, which has been open for 46 years and is always full because it has ‘known how to adapt its facilities.’
“Now is the time to take advantage of the fact that countries with which we were in competition, such as Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria or even Greece and Morocco, have problems and occupancy levels will be at a historical high here” said Pozuelo.
He is optimistic about the summer season as many local establishments have already been fully booked.
