POLICE are investigating an attempted robbery at the Leroy Merlin DIY superstore on the outskirts of Malaga City, just off the A-7 motorway.
Two apparently young men, wearing hoods, caught on a security camera, made a hole in the left side of the shop minutes after midnight on Sunday.
The alarm went off and the guard went to check for intruders, but failed to see the hole which had been made behind an exhibit of sheds. When he left, they made another hole in the wall between the office they had entered and the area where the safes are located, showing that the attack was planned.
However, this took longer as it was an armoured wall. When the reached the safety area, they hacked at the first safe they found with an axe until it opened, only to find it was empty. They then searched all other officers for cash, but after 90 minutes they left empty-handed, causing the alarm to go off again.
National Police are now studying the CCTV footage.
