500 bikers roll into Albir for ‘fun day’

ABOUT five hundred bikers were thought to be present at last weekend’s ‘Fun Day’ in Albir. The event was organised by the Costa Blanca Chapter a.k.a. the official local club for owners of Harley Davidson motorbikes.

The concept of a biker chapter having a fun day might at first seem incongruous, but as with last year’s event, it was a truly spectacular showcase for the legendary machines.

The event took place in Albir’s Eucalypus Park, and was the second year that it has taken place. The image of motorbike owners and hells angels was a world away from the true aficionado that is your Harley owner.

As well as bike owners, the public turned up in droves to sample the chugging cacophony that accompanies a herd of idling “hogs” (Harley Davidsons). They are really impressive machines.

“This is the kind of tourism we want to promote” said Vicente Arque, the mayor of Alfas.

The Chapter already has 11 different nationalities and is a real example of multicultural integration. With a Harley, there are no borders.

The President of the Chapter is Alan Milburn (not the British M.P.) who has been riding bikes for 46 years, and is affectionately known as Grandad.

These days many of the news reports i read seem to miss out the basics.
