64 submit logos for Soho Malaga project

A TOTAL of 64 submissions were received in the €3,000 prize competition to choose a logo for the proposed Soho Malaga. Four submissions will be short-listed for the new ‘cultural neighbourhood’ of Malaga, a project which intends to replicate the Sohos in cities like New York or London, in spirit at least.

The ambitious project for Soho Malaga will be in the immediate area surrounding Calle Tomas Heredia in an area known for an abundance of seedy no-star hostels, street hookers and sex shops.

A Google maps search for this street reveals at least four such shops. If the project goes ahead Calle Tomas Heredia will be pedestrianised like Calle Larios.

The street connects the Alameda Principal boulevard with the Avenida de Manuel Agustin Heredia by the port.

Soho Malaga would cover a space equivalent to 20 hectares flanked by the Contemporary Art Museum (CAC Malaga) located by the river and the emblematic La Equitative building located across the road from the Alameda entrance to Calle Larios, next to Plaza de la Marina.

Counting with the support of Malaga City Hall, the business community and residents of the area hope Soho Malaga will become an area known for arts, culture, shopping and leisure.

Other proposals include moving the flower shops which for years have been on Alameda Principal to Calle Tomas Heredia.

Malaga Mayor Francisco de la Torre said the Soho Malaga project would be a gradual one, with visible results in three or four year’s time.
