TURRE COUNCIL intends to bring the Sierra Cabrera a little closer with repairs to three existing footpaths. This is just one of four plans recently approved by official rural development body GDS. One concentrates on repairing and signposting three Turre footpaths traditionally used by Sierra residents to reach outlying farms and estates in the area.
After renovation, it is hoped the paths will highlight the cultural and natural assets of Sierra Cabrera, and enable hikers to explore the area more easily. Also in the Turre Council pipeline are plans to create rural zones explaining the local plants and wildlife. Moving away from Turre, the GDS project is to donate funds towards organising the first Huercal-Overa trade fair.
The fourth and final project is the GDS’ own scheme of workshops aimed at introducing young people to the countryside while teaching them about the heritage of the Levante area.
