A British teenager’s body has been recovered after he went missing on Sunday evening off the coast of Punta Umbria, Huelva. It is reported that he rescued his brother who had also got into difficulty but did not manage to get himself back to the shore. The body was found at 11.00am Tuesday on the Nuevo Portil Beach, which is an arrow shaped piece of land that is reached by ferry.
“Every year incidents like this occur along this coast of Andalucia” the director of emergency services, Francisco Huelva told CanalSur TV.
“Unfortunately many of these, though not the majority, are due to imprudent actions,” although he was quick to add “I’m not saying that is the case here.”
The area in which the teenagers experienced difficulty literally translates as “the boot” and is well known for its shifting sand and strong currents.
Signs are in place that warn of the danger and urge extreme caution when venturing into the sea.
