British woman beheaded in Tenerife supermarket

A British woman has been attacked and beheaded in a Chinese supermarket on the island of Tenerife, according to reports. A Bulgarian man has been detained by Spanish Police in the town of Los Cristianos. Eye witnesses saw the man walk into the supermarket at the Valdes shopping centre, and without saying a word, attacked the woman with a knife and cut off her head, Spanish media reports.

A local councilor said: “Apparently this gentleman without any motive or any reason, although for this there is no reasoning, entered the shop and then cut this woman’s neck and took the head in his hand outside and walked up to the sidewalk.

“Then the security guard was able to throw him on the ground and we covered the macabre (site).”

The Foreign Office have confirmed they are aware on an incident concerning the death of a British national and are urgently investigating.

The Bulgarian man is undertsood to be homeless and had allegedly obtained the knife from inside the supermarket.

The horrific murder took place this morning around 10.25am and a Police source has said the suspect was “very well known” to them in this area. Local reports said he had spent time in the psychiatric unit at the Hospital de La Candelaria following violent outbursts.
