EIGHT people were killed and dozens injured after two earthquakes shook the Murcia town of Lorca late yesterday afternoon.
The first – at 5.05pm – measured 4.4 on the richter scale which was followed by a stronger one of 5.2 shortly before 7pm.
There are reports the eartquake was felt in Albacete, Almeria and as far away as Madrid.
The A-7 was the only motorway affected.
Until 11pm traffic was diverted to the toll road AP-7 free of charge.
Initial reports suggest yesterday’s Lorca earthquake caused the most damage in 30 years.
Today all schools will remain closed in Murcia Region until possible damage is assessed.
