FBI follow police via Twitter

THE Spanish National Police have created a profile on social networking site Twitter in English, and one of their first followers was the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). After the interest which arose over their initial profile, www.twitter.com/policia, created in March 2009, from other police forces around the world, they created a new information channel, www.twitter.com/spanishpolice.

It gives concise and immediate information about the operations they are carrying out, as well as advice, images or public services.

The New Zealand and Vancouver police and the Sheriff’s office in Oklahoma are also followers.

The original profile now has more than 13,000 followers, making it one of the most popular public institutions in Spain.

The profile receives messages of congratulations and support, as well as questions about the Spanish law and police procedures. It can also be used to report computer crimes, international crime and terrorism.
