Locals sued for filming town hall meeting

MEMBERS of a residents’ Group in Uleila del Campo (Almeria) have been taken to court for uploading a video of a municipal plenary meeting to the internet. They are charged with disobedience, since the mayor banned filming during the meeting. It appears that there were admissions regarding irregularities in the purchase of land to install the sewage plant.

The group protested in 2009 over the fact that the existing plant hasn’t been in use for decades and according to them, contaminates the Rambla del Cañal, and therefore demanded explanations over why the a different plot had been purchased instead of the one agreed at an earlier meeting.

The president of the association has complained of censure which she says is in revenge for them revealing the truth.
