Frankies Bar, everybody’s local

WHEN you come to Vera, don’t leave without a visit to Frankies Bar, situated on the road that leads to the Vera Playa Hotel. You will be warmly welcomed by Alan and Shelley who have been running Frankies since 2008. Shelley had experience of working and running bars in their home town of Stoke, but back then Alan was a complete novice.

They both have put their heart and soul into making Frankies the success that it is today. They tirelessly give support to local charities and have another night for PAWS coming up very soon.

What makes Frankies such a special bar?

There is nothing on their extensive menu of homemade food that cost over €10. But be warned Shelley does not do small portions, she says: “when people come here to eat we feel that it is our duty to feed them” and their almost legendary 6oz fillet with home made chips and peas or salad for €7 is a great example. They recently started to offer Sunday Roast lunch at only €10. No doubt this will become another waistline-bursting special.

Tuesday is bingo, Thursday is quiz night and every Friday there is live music. They recently managed to book the best Rod Stewart tribute act available, Des Martin, for his only appearance in Spain this year. Alan says, so many people came to see Des that we had to use a low loader as a stage and they had to close the road to traffic

The answer to why Frankies is such a success for me is the atmosphere. There is a family friendly, fun attitude in Frankies. Recently, a tourist said he had met and befriended more people in Frankies during his one week holiday than he had in the 20 years going to his local back home. He cannot wait to return during his summer break.

So take a leaf out of the this tourist’s book and visit Frankies, meet new friends, dine at exceptionally low prices or just have a drink and relax in the family friendly atmosphere.
