Youth loses both legs in train accident

AN 18-YEAR-OLD Ecuadorian youth lost both his legs when he was run over by a train at the Leganes Central station in Madrid. The youth, who was extremely drunk, was at the station with some friends just before 7am when they began to argue with another group.

He went down on to the tracks to pick up some stones to throw at the other youths, but was unable to return to the platform as the train was coming.

The train cut off his right leg at the ankle and his left leg just under the knee, the limbs were totally destroyed and could not be saved to be reattached.

Doctors have had to amputate both legs at the knees and the victim was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid in an extremely severe condition.

He was conscious at all times.
