Prison break ‘threat’ as inmates get key access

IT has been revealed that inmates are cleaning offices where the keys to their cells are kept at the Puerto II prison in Cadiz. The Penitentiary Institutions Administration Group has reported the situation, and claims that riot gear, administrative documents and reports on the inmates were also kept in the offices which were being cleaned by inmates at the prison in El Puerto de Santa Maria.

The inmates also clean the infirmary.

The spokesperson for the group, Juan Carlos Sanchez, has said that this is due to cutbacks in prisons throughout Spain, and that the women who used to be paid to clean the prison inside and out, are now only doing the outside, while 10 inmates were chosen to clean the officers where the prison guards work.

However, he also said that they were aware that this caused a “serious safety problem.”
