Prostitutes and junkies by children’s playground, say residents

PROSTITUTES and drug addicts frequent the Sa Gerreria neighbourhood of Palma where a children’s playground has been built, residents are protesting. Those behind the protest backed by the neighbourhood association Canamunt, prefer to remain anonymous as they have received threats.

However the s’Estel Nou housing promoter Gabriel Oliver said that “despite everything that has gone before, there remains a trouble spot that affect a large segment of the population, and something needs to be done about it.”

They have made written complaints, but to no avail and so have collected signatures from more than 100 supporters.

They say this is also the same area where the weekly Tuesday tapas route takes place in the area.

The new owners of apartments in the area bought them not realizing that they would be witnesses to fights and excessive noise levels due to junkies and prostitutes fighting at night.

Although most altercations occur after dark, some happen during the day by the children’s playground.

Sometimes prostitutes conduct their services in the plaza or the doorways of buildings and the same goes for the junkies that leave used needles in the area.
