Top players descend to Torrequebrada

IT was a truly fabulous week of poker down at the casino Torrequebrada. The place was buzzing with top players from all over Spain and Europe descending onto the cardroom floor. This was the first real festival of poker here on the Costa del Sol and a huge success it has been, I am sure there will be many more to come.

All of the events held were sold out and of course there can only be one winner of the main event.

This honour went to young Spanish poker pro Antonio Diéguez, along with a whopping €81,500 for his weekends work and an entry ticket into the EPT in Barcelona later this year worth another €5,000.

The top Brit was our own great friend Neil Sweeting, former owner of the Terra Sana restaurant chain, who managed a very respectable 23rd place from the starting field of 347. Congratulations Neil and to everyone who cashed last week.

This week the poker gods will be playing about with the cards again as the action moves up the coast to the home ground of The Marbella Mob, the prestigious Casino Marbella. Event number 3 in the Marbella Classic series of 2011 starts Saturday afternoon at 4pm sharp.

The buy-in for this event is €350 with an optional rebuy of another €350. You could take your chances to win a seat by playing in the €50 rebuy satellite tonight (Thursday). Finally I just want to congratulate our friend and a true gentleman, Roberto Romanello, for taking down his second major tour title this year winning the World Poker Tour in Bratislava to add to the EPT victory he secured in Prague just a couple of months ago, bringing his career earnings to just under $2 million.

Congratulations maestro.
