More Franco era ‘baby thefts’ revealed

ANOTHER five suspected ‘baby theft’ cases from the Franco era was presented by the public prosecutor in Sevilla this past week bringing the total to 24, while in the whole of Andalucia 300 cases are currently being studied. It is thought that nearly 300,000 babies were stolen during the Franco regime; the mothers were told that their baby had died at birth.

A company in Madrid is creating a DNA database from samples given by people looking for their children, siblings, etc, and the process of cross-matching has begun in some cases.
