EU’s €6m fruit and veg grant for school children


THE European Commission awarded Spain a €6.2 million for the promotion of fruit and vegetable consumption in schools during the 2011-2012 academic year, it was revealed on Wednesday. This comes out of a €90 million EU budget that will benefit 24 participating countries.

The countries that will receive the most funding include Italy with €18m, Germany with €11m, France with €10m, Poland with €9m and Romania with €8m.


In 2009-2010, 2.7 million children across the EU benefited from this initiative and received fruit and vegetables in their schools.
