PEOPLE caught riding their bicycles on the pavements in Palma will soon face a €100 fine. This amount can be increased to as much as €500 if the riding is considered reckless, according to the Regulating Municipal Ordinance for the Mobility of Cyclists, approved last week by the local government.
The speed limit for bicycle riders is 20 kilometres per hour on the bike lanes, regardless of where they are.
It is forbidden to ride bicycles in parks, gardens and pedestrian areas.
These measures still need to be approved at the April plenary session after which citizens organizations can raise any claims in writing to be included in the Ordinance, which is expected to be adopted at the end of this year.
