NOT only are Almerienses Andalucia’s heaviest smokers, but there were more of them in 2007 than 2005 when anti-smoking laws were first introduced and fewer wanted to stop. Almost 32 per cent lit up each day and despite the traditional male-female divide with 39 per cent of men but only 24 per cent of women smoking regularly, more of the province’s women were smoking than ever.
These figures, based on 2007 findings, were revealed as 550 pneumologists and thoracic surgeons gathered in La Linea de la Concepcion last week for the 37th annual conference of the Asociacion de Neumologia y Cirugia Toracica del Sur (Neumosur).
