THE Tax, Social Security, the Labour Inspectorate Agency (INEM) and the State Security Forces are investigating fraud in the Balearic Islands. They are targeting ‘fictitious’ companies with little or no activity who simulate work contracts, for which they charge a commission, so that the dole can later be claimed or foreign workers get work permits extended or residence.
There are currently several cases being studied, including the recent case of a construction company that increased its workforce by 100 foreign African nationals, despite a crisis in the sector.
