ALMERIA Province has the highest risk of alcoholism in Andalucia, according to the Andalucian Drugs and Addictions Observatory. A report from 2009, ‘Andalucians and Drugs’ concludes that 81.3 per cent of people interviewed, aged between 12 and 64 had drunk alcohol.
Seven in ten (67.7 per cent) had consumed alcohol in the past 12 months and 59.9 per cent in the previous month.
This is considered normal as long as the daily consumption of alcoholic drinks is less than 50cl for men and 30cl for women.
When analyzing the risk, the observatory takes into account that at weekends, youths tend to consume excessive amounts of alcohol, putting them most at risk of addiction.
In Andalucia 4.7 per cent of youths between 16 and 24 consume excessive amounts of alcohol. In Almeria, 4.7 per cent of the population admits to having consumed daily amounts of alcohol which are considered dangerous.
