‘Yiyo’ Master of the Classic

THE first event in this year’s Marbella Classic Poker series has gone to ‘The Nerja Ninja’ otherwise commonly known as Yiyo. Last Saturday afternoon 103 players took their seats to fight for the €48,490 prize pool. There was an eager anticipation and a fantastic atmosphere in the room as the cards flew into the air for the first hand to be dealt of the new 2011 series.

Loads of familiar faces from all corners of the Costa del Sol and Gibraltar were there pitting their cunning skills against each other, some rather better than others, in an attempt to outsmart their opponents and remove all of their chips from them.

But all had a smile on their face and no hard feelings, after all that’s Poker and you can’t win ‘em-all.

On Sunday, day two, 23 runners were to return and battle it out for a seat at the final table and their share of the very close to 50k that was up for grabs.

But there can only be one winner and “Yiyo” AKA Joaquin Augusto Serrano proved triumphant by taking down the tournament and a first prize of €17,680. Not a bad payday for a weekends work.

Other notable cash’s were for regular players Jaime Blanco, Raul Gonzalez, Poker Pro Ernesto Jimenez, the beautiful Margareta Shilliam and local Painter and decorator Ian Holmes, who might just have a week off and indulge himself with a few slurps.

If you fancy taking your chances at the next event, then this takes place on March 19.

But if you want, you can try and win your seat for as little as €50, the satellite takes place on St Patrick’s Day, March 17 at Casino Marbella 8.30pm sharp.
