Row over illegal dump continues

THE area behind Go-Karts on the N332 in Playa Flamenca in Orihuela has been described at the ‘biggest and ugliest’ dump. Residents have complained for years and made formal denuncias, had press exposure and sent a letter to Orihuela Mayor Monica Llorente requesting its removal.

“It is unauthorised,” explained Bob Houliston from CLARO political party, “a dump is illegal even if it is on private land.”

“By law, neighbours are protected from the ugliness, the smells and the vermin, including rats, which inhabit such a disgraceful site.”

“They should also be protected from the not very well looked after noisy dogs, also kept on the site in a kennel.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Orihuela Town Hall said their hands are tied as the land is private, and they have “told residents to contact SEPRONA (the Guardia Civil nature protection unit) about the dogs and denuncias have been made on behalf of the Town Hall to the owners of the land telling them to clear it.”
