THE Aquarius Clinic at Beniarbeig Hospital has been declared insolvent by Alicante Commercial Court after accumulating more than €4 million in debts. It has been a pioneer in Spain for natural childbirth since 19790 and abortion since 1986 and had the lowest rate of caesarean sections and epidurals in Spain.
At its height the hospital had 100 employees; now there are just 50 who are uncertain of the future of their jobs. It has been three months since they have received their wages following a 22.8 per cent salary cut.
They filed for voluntary bankruptcy and are in the midst of ‘imminent insolvency’ for not being able to meet their obligations ‘regularly and punctually’.
Acuario Espai de Salut SA had stated assets of €6,479,351 and €4,114,174 in liabilities.
