All on-board for Alicante-Benidorm high speed link

PEOPLE in Benidorm are heavily in favour of the proposed Alicante to Benidorm AVE high speed rail link, an Alicante University study shows. Of Benidorm’s residents, 96.81 per cent were in favour of the project, as were 90.75 per cent of non-residents. The project would involve the construction of a station, planned for a 2020 completion.

The station would service the 250,000 inhabitants expected to be registered in the region by that year, in addition to 7 million tourists, according to Industry Councillor Eliseo Yus.

There has also been talk of a direct route from London to Benidorm through Brussels, Paris and Madrid, which would take about nine hours, according to Yus.

The study was conducted by sociologist Mario Gaviria for the Town Hall with a view to creating a 500 meter urban radius for offices, research centres and services by 2050.

An information panel regarding the advantages of the AVE train to Benidorm was put up at the Espai d’Art at Benidorm Town Hall on Tuesday.
