Regional Government investing €17m in Orihuela

MORE than €17 million is to be invested in 24 different projects in Orihuela. This is out of a €77 million investment by the Valencian Regional Government in 124 projects in the Vega Baja area. Regional Social Welfare Minister Angelica Such announced these plans during a visit on Tuesday to Orihuela, accompanied by Mayor Monica Lorente.

Three of the investments will include the reformation of the La Matanza, Raiguero de Matanza and La Media Legua community centers with a €320,000 investment.

With these new facilities “senior citizens will be able to enjoy the best activities with an improved program and quality of life,” stressed Such.

In Orihuela there will be a further 21 projects to make a total of 24 projects. During the visit, Lorente and Such laid the first stone of the future ‘Oriol’ Occupation Center for people with disabilities.

The new center will be able accommodate 78 users and could attend a total of 102 people via a team of nine monitors, two psychologist and a specialized teacher.

The complex will offer day care that promotes autonomy, personal development and social integration of people with intellectual disabilities in Orihuela.

Angelica Such also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mayor Lorente for the construction and subsequent maintenance of a residence for people with intellectual disabilities.

This new project will add “to the vast network of service centers in the Region which now supports both people with disabilities and their families,” stated Such.

There are currently 42 centers offering 2,410 places for senior citizens with disabilities or mental illness in the Vega Baja, according to Social Welfare Ministry sources.
