1 year on and no works for Microsoft research centre

WORK on Microsoft’s Health Innovation Centre in Torrevieja have not yet started, nearly a year after it was publicly announced. In February 2010, the President of the Valencian Regional Government, Francisco Camps (PP) visited Microsoft’s headquarters in Seattle (USA) where he met and was photographed with Bill Gates.

The meeting was to publicly formalize the installation of the centre by the IT giant next to Torrevieja Hospital. The building was supposed to have been completed in the first part of this year.

There does not seem to be any problem with the design or the workers. The centre has a relatively modest size of about 300 square meters and would employ a dozen people.

Microsoft confirmed that the project had not been stopped and that they were going through to the recruitment phase.

Ministry of Health sources indicated that until the new building is completed, they can work at the hospital and that the works would “commence shortly.”

Another agreement reached between the Regional Government and Microsoft has moved faster.

Yesterday the Valencian version of Windows 7 and Office 2010 was recently presented at Palau de les Arts and was attended by Iberian Microsoft president Mary Garaña and Valencia Regional Government President, Francisco Camps.

They were created through collaboration between Microsoft and the Valencia Education Department.
