Caves resonate with the sound of music

THE Nerja Caves has launched the second ‘My first concert in the Caves’ which is ongoing until Friday February 18. There are two sessions that the school children can enjoy; 10am and 12pm. “Our aim is that the students get the opportunity to attend their first concert inside the cave and for them to enjoy classical music and begin to understand how to interpret it,” said Education and Culture councillor.

Last year around 1,800 children attended the concerts; this year they expect around 4,200 to attend. Orchestra Imagina will be interpreting various classical pieces.

Schools from Almuñecar, Torre del Mar, La Cala del Moral, Canillas de Aceituno, Competa and Malaga are also participating.

Members of the Research Institute of the Nerja Cave Foundation will also give students an explanation about the caves prior to the concert.

The caves will still be open to the public who can also attend the concerts if they wish, according to Antonio Garrido of the Cave Foundation.
