ALICANTE – A NEW law for begging and prostitution was approved by Alicante Town Hall on Monday. Article 5.2 – which called for anything earned through begging to be seized – has been annulled. The objective of the new legislation is to “not allow certain behaviour which disrupts daily life in public” according to Traffic, Security and Transportation Councillor Juan Seva.
It will be the neighbourhood associations and merchants that will alert Local Police to any infractions, who will then give out warnings and if they do not stop then they will receive a fine.
The ordinance is only in reference to prostitution and begging and not any other behaviour, which is similar to that of Barcelona law’s.
