Mijas dinosaur theme park delayed over funding

WHILE the project for a Dinosaur park in Mijas is not extinct, when it will go ahead remains a mystery. Mijas Town Hall has said that the project which was announced almost a year ago, has not yet gone ahead because it needs a private investment of at least €12m.

It was initially suggested that the Mijas Racecourse would be converted into the ‘Jurapark’, but the location which gained popularity was El Ahogaero, near the Cerros del Aguila urbanization on the Camino de Coin.

Meanwhile, from the opposition, the Partido Popular in the town has said that the mayor, Antonio Sanchez, should be ashamed of himself for announcing the park at last year’s Fitur International Tourism Fair in Madrid when has done nothing to make project a reality.

The PP have also called the idea farfetched, and question whether dinosaurs made of plastic and cement will attract the thousands of tourists which the mayor predicted.
