Detainee pretended to be policewoman to steal from prostitutes

GUARDIA CIVIL in Garrucha arrested two people, aged 22 and 74, who allegedly pretended to be police officers and stole items from their victims’ homes. In the operation, codenamed Jacaranda, two other people were charged for receiving stolen goods. The investigation began in December after three violent robberies in homes in Vera, in which all of the victims were prostitutes who advertised in the press and online.

One of the detainees would pretend to be a policewoman, showing a badge and searching the residents of the houses, before ‘seizing’ valuable objects such as mobile phone, computers and cash, which she would put into bags. If the victims objected, she threatened them with a knife.

She would then load the objects into a car parked outside and driven by another person.

All of the stolen goods have been recovered.

National Police reported that the 22-year-old woman had been sentenced to three years in prison for attempting to steal a newborn baby from the Poniente Hospital in El Ejido in October 2008, pretending to be a nurse.

The baby was recovered in perfect health after the detainee returned it to its father when she was caught minutes after taking it.
