In the second line, Puerto Banus, is the live music bar ‘Playerz’. Seven days a week Playerz has a unique interactive live music show with the band Trixxx featuring the vocalist Thomas Henry. The band plays with no set, so when I say interactive, I mean interactive, just shout out the name of a song you want to hear and amazingly they play it!
The music is very UK orientated from the end of the 60’s to the late 80’s and features songs from Santana, Dire Straights, Led Zeppelin, Oasis, AC/DC, The Beatles and includes well loved Mowtown numbers.
Monday night is the very popular ‘Jam Session’ where members of the audience are invited to join the band and play their instruments or sing and I was surprised by the amount of talent in the bar the night I visited. Guitarists, bassists, vocalists and even a drummer joined in for a very entertaining Jam Session.
Playerz opens its doors at 9pm, and the live music sessions start at 11pm and the band plays through until 3am.
I asked one of the owners of Playerz, Jan Stevens, what he wanted to achieve with the bar and what remit he gave the band. “I want Playerz to be the absolute number one live music venue in the Marbella area” he said “and my only remit to the band is to create organised chaos!” That was certainly achieved the night I attended.
The bar can cater for up to 90 people, and the range of nationalities attending that night was surprising including British, Irish, Dutch, German, Spanish and Scandinavian.
Remarkably entrance to Playerz is free of charge and as far as Puerto Banus prices are concerned the drinks are extremely reasonable. Residents of the Costa del Sol can also benefit from a discount card entitling them to 30 per cent off.
Although I didn’t have the courage to get up on stage and jam, I can honestly say that the three hours I spent at Playerz simply flew by and it’s a long time since I enjoyed such an excellent evening of live music.
