WHEN I first saw this evening advertised I knew it promised to be a great night, all the ingredients were right. Richard Shepherd’s Restaurant is considered to be one of the top, most consistently professional eating houses in the area, serving gourmet food at sensible prices.
The entertainers concerned, the cream of the crop, Ellen Turner, an ex big band singer in the UK seen locally with the duo Arriba Arriba. Brendan O’Dee a well respected, talented local musician and singer, and part of the exclusive “Kings Of Swing” duo along with Tony Justice.
Nicknamed the “Costa Crooner”, Tony Justice is without doubt one of the top ‘Sinatra’ tribute acts in Spain.
I reserved my tickets four weeks prior to the event, fortunately, just before it sold out.
On arrival at the El Mar La Mar the atmosphere was electric, the staff led by Louisa, the restaurant Manager, went about their duties with usual efficiency showing the guest to their tables with the minimum of fuss. Then the food – WOW – piping hot, beautifully presented and delicious.
The entertainment started with Lady Ellen, warming the room with Ella Fitzgerald standards like Manhattan and Cheek to Cheek, to mention only two, then Brendan sang the songs of made famous by Michael Buble and brought the house down before introducing Tony who wowed the guest with his usual aplomb. After a short break it all started again with more up-tempo music and the guest took to the floor en-mass.
Quite simply one of the most memorably nights I have ever experienced and I am already booked for the next event on December 11th.
