RIM is set to launch their new Blackberry, the Torch, on August 12, which aims to be competition to Apple’s iPhone and will retail at the same price. The new Blackberry uses a revamped operating system with a faster and easier-to-use Web browser.
The nearly air-tight encryption has come under scrutiny by some international markets, including the United Arab Emirates, who have threatened to ban some Blackberry services, until given access to encrypted messages, and India whose Economic Times reported that RIM will allow Indian security authorities to monitor BlackBerry services.
However RIM Chief Technology Officer, David Yach said “I believe they will have trouble pulling the trigger to shut down BlackBerry since most governments in the world rely on Blackberry.”
