If you have never tried Jerk Chicken there is no better time than now to do so. Jerk chicken is a Caribbean dish featuring chicken marinated in the famous jerk sauce of Jamaica. The “jerk,” incidentally, is derived from “jerky,” a type of preserved  meat, rather than a reference to a “jerk” as in an obnoxious person. The jerk sauce is actually traditionally a dry rub which is famous for being extremely spicy, and jerk spicing includes scotch bonnet peppers, among the hottest in the world, and all spice.

Happy, the owner of the Caribbean Mermaid, is considered to be the local expert in this style of cooking and his jerk sauce has a spicy kick with a hint of sweetness to it, and you can choose the degree of spiciness you require. To give the uninitiated the chance to try Jerk dishes in smaller portions Happy has introduced a summer special of Jerk Chicken, chips and coleslaw for just 6 euros.

This is, of course, in addition to his standard menu which features a large variety of standard British meals covering breakfast lunch and dinner. They also offer a splendid 3 course menu for just 8 Euros and their Sunday Roast is legendary. Drinks are reasonably priced and there is defiantly something to suit all culinary tastes.


The Caribbean Mermaid is situated on the harbor in Fuengrola and affords lovely views across the marina and the moored boats from its comfortable waters edge terrace.
