Newlyweds again?
Newlyweds again? The Sugababes have stressed the importance of pop bands, complaining that children are ‘growing up way too fast’. The girl group argued that the demise of Smash Hits magazine and Saturday morning kids’ TV had dramatically altered the music industry. Keisha explained: “What I really want is to see more pop bands.

I want it to go back to the days of Smash Hits, when we’d tour with Blazin’ Squad and Girls Aloud and have a blast. Even the Saturday shows where we dressed up and got gunked don’t exist. I know I’m sounding like a granny, but kids today are growing up way too fast because they don’t have those things to keep them young anymore.”

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz are rumoured to be starring in a new version of MTV reality show Newlyweds. The original series followed Ashlee’s older sister Jessica and her then-husband Nick Lachey, but their marriage crumbled after three years. According to OK! magazine, dad Joe Simpson wants the hit show to raise Ashlee’s profile as it did for her sibling: “He knows that no one cared about Jessica before her reality show, and he’s hoping a show for Ashlee will have the same effect.” A publicist for Ashlee and Wentz denied the rumours. The couple announced their engagement earlier this month.

Will.i.am wants Cheryl Cole to front the Black Eyed Peas should Fergie ever decide to leave the group. The pair collaborated on the single Heartbreaker and Will.i.am admitted the Girls Aloud singer would fit in well with the group. He said: “If we didn't have Fergie, Cheryl would be in the Peas - that’s how cool she is.” Will.i.am recently confessed to having a crush on Cole, saying: “If you measured it on a scale of hot to ten. Cheryl is a ten. She is hot.”

Former Coronation Street actor Rupert Hill is to guest-star in The Bill. The 29-year-old, who played Jamie Baldwin in the ITV1 soap, will appear in the upcoming four-part special Gun Runner as Kieran Wallace, a dangerous thug who is part of a gun-running gang which Sergeant Smithy (Alex Walkinshaw) must infiltrate in a bid to take guns off the streets. He said: “It makes a change to play such a vicious character.

Alex and I filmed scenes during match day at Millwall Football Club. It was a fantastic opportunity, and called for some complicated filming, but it was a lot of fun.” The episodes see Smithy face his toughest challenge yet when he goes undercover and finds himself challenged at every turn. Gun Runner is due to transmit at the beginning of July.

• Mathew Horne has dismissed rumours of a romance between James Corden and Lily Allen. Despite tabloid claims that the pair are an item, Mat revealed that they have yet to even share a kiss: “James comes into work each day and everyone is asking him ‘have you s****ed her yet?’ The truth is he hasn’t even kissed her. He would love to, of course, but they are just friends, for now. It could change, who knows? James probably wants it to change, but I know they haven’t even kissed yet.” It has been reported that Corden had asked Lily’s mother for her permission to date the singer.

EX-Boss of Coronation Street Steve Frost has admitted that he would have loved to flood Weatherfield. Frost, who is just about to leave the soap, said he regretted missing the chance to bring a natural disaster to Corrie. In an interview with ITV.com, Frost said: “I would love to have flooded The Street.

It would have been great to see a natural weather disaster on The Street. We keep touching on it, thinking, ‘can we tank The Street? Can we fill it with water?’ I really fell in love with the idea of somebody in a rowing boat coming round the corner by the Rovers - people climbing out of the top floor of the Rovers into rowing boats. It would have been a view of The Street never seen before and probably never seen again, but it proved a little bit difficult to pull off. One day, though, I think it will happen because it would be marvellous.”
