Las Brisas Golf Tournament raising funds for Cudeca
Captain Pete Timmons with Joan Hunt, OBE.The Royal Golf Club Las Brisas in Nueva Andalucia, held a charity event last Sunday May 4, in order to raise funds for Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice, which this year focused on helping to save the in-patient unit.

The opening of the in-patient unit in 2005 with an availability of 10 beds greatly increased the annual cost of the high quality care offered by the specialist medical team at Cudeca. The income from the hospice charity shops, donations and fundraising events, etc, has not been sufficient to meet the extra costs of running this unit. Should this situation continue, Cudeca will have no alternative but to close it down.

However, if this hard and unpalatable decision has to be taken, it will in no way affect the care of patients in the Home Care Programme and in the Day Care Centre. These important care areas of Cudeca will continue.

The tournament commenced at 9.30am on the beautiful Las Brisas 18-hole course, at the end of which players were invited on to the front green to participate in the putting competition.

A superb luncheon followed which was organised by Antonio from the club restaurant.

The holes on the course were sponsored by local businesses and some of the club members.

A raffle was organised by Muriel Jenkins and Shirley Harries, and an exciting post-lunch auction ended a very successful day which raised a fantastic total of 20,000 euros.

Special thanks go to Gina Pike for organising and co-ordinating the event, and to Muriel Jenkins and Shirley Harries for their successful raffle.

Thanks also to Walter Bonniei, Club President, Margaret Woods and Peter Timmons, Ladies’ and Men’s captains, for all their efforts in helping to make this such a special and successful event.
