Last weekend Jerez circuit was host to the first of 2 official tests to be held there with the new Moto2 class, testing alongside the 125GP series. Replacing the now defunct 250cc series, Moto2 is a new class of Prototype bike that will compete this year in the MotoGP line-up. Some of the characteristics of this new category are that Honda will be the single supplier of engines and Dunlop the tyre contract.

It was said that the billionaire owners were planning summit talks with the wealthy members of supporters group Red Knights. They made it clear that they were happy to acquire the club from Malcolm Glazer and his sons.

Golf - Tiger Woods has seen another sponsorship deal end as a result of the controversy surrounding his tumultuous relationship with his wife. Gatorade is the latest high profile company to end relationships with the fallen golfing star. The drinks company owned by PepsiCo had already discontinued the Tiger Focus drink, and follows AT&T and Accenture in severing ties completely.

Fernando Torres is playing down fears he is not fit enough for Spain’s upcoming Internacional against France on Wednesday. Joining up with the Spanish national side this week, the reds ace is adamant he is fit after spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee problem, in fact he has only made two appearances for Liverpool since returning.

 McLaren’s Jenson Button was fastest at the end of the second week of four
day testing at Jerez
on Saturday. After a day evaluating set-ups in the MP4-25, Button achieved a
fastest lap of 1m 18.871s just two-tenths of a second faster than improving
Robert Kubica of Renault. The Reigning World Champion covered 108 laps on
Saturday and he sets the pace for Barcelona
testing starting this week.

FORMULA 1 - Double F1 champion, Fernando Alonso is back in Jerez for two weeks of testing, driving for his new team Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro. Alonso who came 4th fastest on the 1st day of testing at the rain soaked Jerez circuit, said he is looking forward to going head to head with his old adversary Michael Schumacher - and beating him in 2010. All F1 teams continue testing at Jerez until Saturday February 20.

WINTER OLYMPICS - Nodar Kumaritashvili expressed his concerns that the Winter Olympics luge track was too dangerous before tradgedy struck on Friday resulting in the loss of his life. During a telephone conversation with his father, David Kumaritashvili, he had told him of his concerns over the track and had thought that safety was a big concern.

Miguel Angel Jiminez rode his luck down the first two holes of the playoff, but it was third time lucky that saw the Spaniard take the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday. Up against ryder cup teammate Lee Westwood who missed a 5 foot putt for the win, Jiminez stepped and sank his 4 foot putt for the 16th victory of his career. The pair were tied for the lead starting the final round, with Westwood making a birdie on the 18th to force the playoff.

FOOTBALL - THE world’s most expensive player, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, earned himself a red card after he broke the nose of Malaga’s Patrick Mtiliga during Madrid’s match against Malaga. The ‘accident’ occurred on the 70 th minute after he struck out his arm behind him catching the Malaga defender in the face. Ronaldo apologised for the incident which he assures was unintentional and criticised the ref for giving him the red card “The red card is a disgrace I don't understand it," he said.
