MTV Networks International (MTVNI), a division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B), today announced that it will take this year's annual MTV EMAs to Madrid, Spain. Hailed as one of the most prestigious live music events in the world, the awards show will broadcast live from the Spanish capital. This is the second time in the Award's 17-year history that Spain has played host, the first being Barcelona in 2002. The 2010 Madrid EMAs will take place on Sunday, 7 November 2010.

Sixty nine people have been arrested in Europe during a joint police crackdown on the Georgian Mafia. In Spain alone, the operation dubbed ‘Java’ netted police 24 arrests in Barcelona, Gadalajara and Valencia. Several properties in these locations were raided as well as in Madrid and Alicante.

GIJON - WITNESSES looked on in horror as a female drug addict at a hostel for the homeless in Gijon (Asturias) picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed a nun preparing dinner for residents. The young woman was arrested and the nun, Sister Marcelina Muñiz, admitted with serious neck wounds to Oviedo hospital where her condition was soon stabilised.

One of the great names of Spanish literature, novelist Miguel Delibes, died at his home on Friday, March 12, aged 89. Delibes, born in northern Spanish city of Valladolid in 1920, sadly lost the battle with cancer, which he had been suffering for several years.

SPAIN - A BOLIVIAN woman who was sentenced to prison for killing her partner in Madrid in 2008, has been declared innocent. The man, also Bolivian, abused her, especially when he was drunk, and on one occasion, he was carrying a knife and during the fight, accidentally stabbed himself. The woman was arrested and sentenced by a people’s jury, and has spent one and a half years in prison.

“I’m tired but very happy to be back,” declared aid worker Alicia Gamez on March 10 on as she descended from the Spanish air force plane that had brought her from West Africa to Barcelona. She was returning home after being held for more than three months by Al Qaeda sympathisers, together with fellow volunteers Albert Vilalta and Roque Pascual. They were treated courteously and had been well cared-for, she said, “bearing in mind the hardships of the desert.”

A GANG of Bulgarian fraudsters based in Madrid have been arrested by National Police. They had copied more than 400 credit cards in Madrid and since 2008 are believed to have placed copying devices at cash points in Madrid, Bilbao, Palencia and Malaga, and had members in Milan and Nairobi. They were found to have 1,000 more fake cards and 20 devices and keyboards which the placed on cash points to copy the strip on the cards and obtain the pin numbers. They are believed to have stolen hundreds of thousands of euros.

POPE Benedict XVI will visit Spain this November, his second visit to the country since he became Pope. It has been confirmed that he will be in Santiago de Compostela on November 6 and in Barcelona on November 7. In Barcelona, he will consecrate the Sagrada Familia, where a mass will be held in the centre nave, according to the Archbishop of Barcelona, Lluis Martinez Sistach.

NATIONAL - NATIONAL POLICE and tax officers have seized 1,000 kilos of extremely pure cocaine which had been dissolved in 110 barrels of frozen fruit pulp. The operation, codenamed Canela, which began in 2008 and has resulted in the arrest of seven people, was carried out in the Basque Country, Malaga, Mijas and Alicante.

UPDATE: The little boy was found this afternoon in perfect health on a rural road in Lemoa. He had spent the night in a shepherds’ cabin.
NATIONAL - A 12-YEAR-OLD boy called Iker Etxebarria Espiña went missing on Monday night in Amorebieta, in the Basque Country. He was wearing a dark blue jacket with red stripes and dark blue corduroy trousers when he was last seen. He is 1.60m tall and weighs 50 kilos. He has a birthmark on his face.

NATIONAL - ACCORDING to reports from the National Police, money forgery in Spain has increased and more people were arrested for this last year than ever before. The Banco de España Investigation Brigade, arrested 216 people in 27 operations, however, they do not believe that this is an effect of the economic crisis.

NATIONAL - MADRID Regional Government has begun to process a request to have bullfighting officially classified as a ‘Heritage of Cultural Interest’ (BIC). This was announced by the vice-president and Councillor for Culture for Madrid, Ignacio Gonzalez, while in Cataluña, a debate is going on to decide whether bullfighting should be banned completely, with the participation of bullfighters, philosophers, writers and scientists.

SPAIN - ANTI Corruption Prosecutors are seeing their two and a half year case against alleged Russian mob kingpin Gennadios Vasilievich Petrov collapse. Petrov, was arrested at his 20m euro mansion in Calvia (Mallorca) in June 2008 in the police ‘Operacion Troika’ accused of involvement in extortion, murder, tax evasion illicit association, falsification of documents and drugs trafficking, and was allegedly the boss of the feared Russian Tambovskaya-Malyshevskaya organised crime gang.

SPAIN - A 27-YEAR-OLD priest
in Toledo has been dismissed by the church for spending 17,000 euros, allegedly
on erotic phone calls and porn sites on the internet. The money came from the
congregations and brotherhoods in the two towns where he ministered. The church
has apologized on his behalf and said that an investigation has been opened.
The archbishop has also said that the money will be repaid by the diocese.

million euros are destined to the Iberian Lynx and the rest to three
different animal defence and protection bodies, with the other two parts going
to the national association Amigos de los Animales and the Association for the

which protects donkeys.

NATIONAL - THE Spanish Postal Service, Correos, has released two stamps to commemorate Spain’s current presidency of the EU. The stamps carry the logo which has been created for the occasion, which for the first time, is the same for the three countries which will hold the rotating presidency of the EU council until June 2011, Spain, Belgium and Hungary, which are known as the Trio of Presidencies.

ANDALUCIA - A BRITISH couple died in Rubite, Granada, when the ceiling of a house collapsed, burying them in rubble and wooden beams. The couple, in their sixties, were apparently on a sofa at a friend’s house watching TV, when suddenly, the ceiling of the dining room collapsed, killing them instantly.
