MY name is Nicki and I am the production manager for the Euro Weekly News, based at our head office in the Costa del Sol. I am a single mum trying to balance my extremely demanding job with raising my son aged 11 and daughter aged 14. For the last six months I have been forced to regularly travel to our office in Mallorca, leaving my eternally patient and loving parents to look after my children.
I have been finishing at the office at 9pm, after putting together the five editions of the Euro Weekly News and zipping to the airport to fly to Mallorca, getting there in the early hours of the morning.
Why do I do it? I love my job. And in Spain, for an expat like myself, this can often be a rare find, especially given that everything here is done correctly. Taxes, social security, holiday etc etc.
But I also love my children, and as much as I like our swanky new offices in Portals Nous, I need to find a decent team of people to run the show here in Mallorca so I can give my mum and dad a weekend to themselves.
Over recent months in Mallorca I am continually told that there is no work on the island, yet we can’t seem to recruit decent, hard-working and reliable people. How come an established (10 years in Mallorca) newspaper, owned by a company with a strong head office team of people of all ages and nationalities, cannot therefore find the right people? It is a mystery. Our teams in other parts of Spain like the Costa Blanca and Almeria have worked for us for years, but for some reason all we seem to attract in Mallorca are wide boys? We have suffered our share of people promising us the world and doing little else but stealing our money and running off. This has to stop!
We are not talking about a fly-by-night company, paying cash in hand ‘off the books’, but a multimillion euro turnover organisation with five regional offices. Our staff are fully contracted to work 12 months a year, not just the summer months as is often the case in some sectors. Does nobody want to do a hard days work? Does no one in Mallorca want to work out on the road for the best free newspaper in the business? Why can we not just find one good genuine salesperson on the island who wants to do a hard days work in exchange for a hard days pay.
I ask these questions as my team and I truly believe in our product. We believe in Mallorca. We believe in giving service to our clients – we are not just there to sell them an advert, but to help them boost their business They need looking after, weekly visits, with the attention they deserve and need, especially during such a tough economic climate.
So if you are such a person, who wants to work for a living, and have a good, honest and reliable work ethic give us a call or drop us an email. We are looking for grafters to join a company that is bucking all the trends and growing. We need full time contracted sales staff as well as self employed distributors.
So if you don’t do it for the desire to work for the best, or the job security, or the many other perks, do it for me. Join us so I can spend some time with my children!
