FOUR days of protests over the paid parking at Son Espases Hospital in Palma begin today (Thursday).

Union representatives of hospital employees planned protests for August 16, 22, 23 and 24 against what they call “a new form of hidden copayment and repayment toward healthcare and a salary reduction for hospital personnel.” Supposedly the new parking system costs €1.72 per hour which can amount to €10.70 per day. The total of 930 free parking spaces available for more than 4,500 employees, “are clearing insufficient,” said a union leader who pointed out that employees working the afternoon/night shifts “are going to have a difficult time” finding parking because “workers from the morning shift will still be parked in those spots.”
