World’s biggest solar powered ship docked in Calvia

solar-power-shipTHE world’s biggest solar powered ship is docked at Puerto Adriano in Calvia.

 


It is also the first boat to have travelled around the world running solely on energy found in light.


The MS Turanor PlanetSolar will stay in Mallorca until Saturday July 7 as part of its Mediterranean tour.


The vice president of economy, Josep Ignasi Aguilo visited the ship Tuesday.


The MS Turanor Planet Solar is a catamaran launched in March 2010 in Kiel Germany in the shipyards of Knierim Yachtbau after 14 months of construction.


It is 35m long, 23m wide, 6.1m high and weighs 95 tonnes.


The surface area of solar modules is 537m2 and allows the ship to navigate at night as well.
Forty people are able to go on board and there are four crew.
