DAVID BECKHAM is set to become the new owner of Malaga CF Football Club, American media has reported. But there has been no confirmation of the initial report in the Los Angeles Times, and later carried on global television networks and in other international newspapers.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Beckham, the former England football captain and ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid player would be bidding for 75 per cent of the club shares.

Owner of the club is Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani from Qatar, who has invested millions since taking power in 2010, but who in recent months has been reported to be trying to sell the club, which for the first time is in this season’s Champions League competition after finishing fourth in the Spanish League last season.

Beckham’s partner in the purchase was reported to be Los Angeles Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas. Beckham plays for the Galaxy team. Negotiations for selling Malaga CF to an Armenian-Russian group of investors reportedly failed a few weeks ago.
