THE jellyfish plague has left the Costa del Sol due to the fall in water temperatures.

The invertebrates abandoned the coast on Sunday after pestering beachgoers for the past weeks. A total of 145 people were treated for jellyfish stings in two days on the beaches of Mijas alone, where cleaning workers had collected more than two tons of jellyfish. Most beach towns in the province of Malaga had yellow flags flying last week to warn bathers of the danger, although Mijas and Torremolinos had red flags that prohibited people from going in the water. It is unclear whether the plague will return when the water temperature rises or not.
