THE official Roquetas de Mar webpage is now allowing beachgoers to see in real time when it is a good day to go to the beach. La Romanilla, La Urbanizacion and Aguadulce beaches are three of the few pioneering coastal areas to show web visitors the state they are in at any time thanks to a new web cam system implemented by town hall. The cameras show users if the weather is good, if there are jellyfish in the water, and also the lifeguard flags that indicate when it’s safe to go into the water. The town hall’s technology councillor, Francisco Gutierrez reportedly said “We have found that tourists search for this kind of information in order to choose their vacation destinations, and we want to make it easier for users to access this information so there will be more chances of them deciding to come to Roquetas.” Gutierrez also assured that personal information protection laws are being respected with the web cams given that the cameras are at a distance that avoids any possibility of people being identified on the web page. However, the information about the beaches is very detailed as it includes wind speed, water temperatures, ultraviolet ray levels and more.
