Playa de los Muertos in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar natural reserve Playa de los Muertos in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar natural reserve

THE Cabo de Gata-Nijar natural reserve is expected to receive 50 per cent more visitors in August. The natural beaches of Cabo de Gata are still an important attraction for visitors despite the economic crisis, and according to Mayor Jesus Rodriguez, 500 people are expected to visit the beaches every day.

Beachgoers will now be able to park their vehicles free of charge, and will not have time restrictions as in the past. Bus rides to the beaches now cost €3, which will go towards paying for transport and keeping the area environmentally safe. This will be the second year town hall is providing a bus for people to visit the reserve, and it has helped prevent traffic jams blocking the way to the increasingly popular beaches. Senior citizens and children ride for free, buses leave for Cabo de Gata from Nijar from 9 am to 8 pm every day.
