Vale do Lobo Grand Champions

• 17 Jul 2008 •

VALE DO LOBO Grand Champions Caixa Geral de Depósitos is only just around the corner, taking place this year from August 5-8.

The event, now in its eighth year, is always a popular date for the diary on the veteran tennis circuit, attracting   a wide audience and a promising line-up of some of the greatest exponents of the sport.

Previous years have included John McEnroe, Pat Cash, Cedric Pioline, Fernando Meligeni and  Thomas Muster, to name a few, and this year’s event should be no exception.

Sergi Bruguera and charismatic favourite, Bjorn Borg, have already confirmed that they will attend. And last week, Premier Sports, who organises the event, have announced the remaining players. In a press conference held at Vale do Lobo Auditorium, their spokesman Hugo Ribeiro revealed that Guillermo Vilas from Argentina is this year’s new player, adding that current title holder Chilean Marcelo Rios, will also be coming back to the Algarve.

The tournament will be followed by the resort’s traditional annual Summer Party which is scheduled to follow along the lines of last year’s success as an invitational, after-dinner event held around the lake below the Golf Academy at Parque do Golfe. The popular band Bjorn Again, performing the greatest hits of ABBA, and DJ Ravin form the main highlights for the evening.
