Police seizures crushed
• 12 Jun 2008 •
15,000 CONFISCATED items were crushed last week in style in Torrevieja with Mayor Pedro Hernandez Mateo, the Councillor for Police, Tomas Arenas Bueno, and the Superintendent of the town’s Policia Local, Alejandro Morer Bielsa, there to witness the destruction.
The illegally copied items were seized by officers between January and May this year and include; 7,843 pirate copies of CDs and DVDs, 5,946 sunglasses, 289 watches, 108 purses and handbags,105 wallets, 216 belts, 146 dolls and 253 items of clothing.
Mayor Mateo praised the work of the Policia Local in clamping down on the illegal trade of counterfeit goods and vowed to continue to support their work. Copying films, music and fashion accessories costs jobs, livelihoods and supports organised crime and criminals who also dabble in human trafficking and the drugs trade.
Buying illegally copied goods not only supports this illegal trade but also gives the consumer no guarantee of quality and could even be detrimental to your health if you buy sunglasses that have no UV protection, for example. | Return to Top
