THE Euro Weekly News was one of the sponsors for the Saint Patrick’s weekend which was held at the Parque Miramar Shopping Centre in Fuengirola from March 14 – 17.
The event, which was held in the bar and restaurant area, gathered people of all ages and nationalities who came to enjoy the traditional Irish music and dancing and savour a much-needed glass of cold Guinness for free.
The Costa del Sol Irish Association entertained visitors with an Irish music and dance show every afternoon for one hour. The spectacular show included traditional songs and dancing by musicians and younger dancers, as well as a more modern, ‘Lord of the Dance’ style performance which delighted spectators.
Many people came to watch the shows, including some who had never seen traditional Irish dancing and were very impressed. One Spanish man with his young daughter commented “It’s very spectacular and moving. I’d never seen anything like it.”
After the show, and to accompany the Guinness, Irish appetisers were served, much to the delight of all present.
Sponsors Aer Arann and Setanta Home Improvements provided some fabulous prizes for the weekend draw, including flights to Ireland, a weekend break and a 500 euros shopping spree.
Also worth seeing was the ‘Spirit of Ireland’ art exhibition by children from St Anthony’s College and the Benalmadena British College.
Maurice Boland and REM radio broadcast live from the event on Saturday 16 with a show titled ‘A little bit of blarney’ dedicated to all things Irish.
This weekend of Irish fun was certainly one to remember. |
