Former head named as Cambridge man for Spain

BARRIE WIGGINGS has been appointed as the new representative in Spain for the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). He will be based in Palma. As the world’s largest provider of international examinations for 14 to 19 year olds, CIE operates in 150 countries worldwide, with a number of representatives providing local guidance and support.
A former teacher and head teacher, Barrie has been a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS) committee eight years.
He started his career teaching Science and Maths in Bedfordshire, in the UK, before moving abroad to work in international schools in Germany, South Africa and Spain.
Barrie worked at Munich International School as Director of Senior School, moved on to South Africa to teach Science and Maths at St Alban’s College, Pretoria, and then relocated to Spain to work in school administration at Baleares International School. His career then took him back to Germany to teacher Science and Maths at Frankfurt International School before he moved to the American School of Mallorca where he taught Science and Maths. For the last 20 years Barrie has been Headmaster and owner of the Baleares International School .
With a long association with CIE, Barrie took part in the early development of Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge Checkpoint and Cambridge International A Level, with Nick Sansome, CIE’s Education Development Manager, commenting on his appointing, stating: “Cambridge is at the forefront of the Spain’s growing interest in international education.
“Barrie’s considerable experience of working in education in Spain and around the world as both a teacher and head teacher will be vital in supporting Cambridge schools in Spain.” | Return to Top
